what about brian?

Monday, May 1st, 2006

ok, so i’m hooked on a new TV show…i hate to admit it cause the last thing i want to do is watch more TV but in my defense i got tricked into it. a few weeks ago i unsuspectingly set my VCR to tape Grey’s Anatomy while i went out with some friends that were in town. we hit El Cholo, which is an authentic Mexican restaurant in LA that has been around since 1927 and is known for its margaritas and for apparently inventing the nacho. i’m not so sure about the nacho thing but the 4 margaritas i had were pretty damn good. flirting with an ex

Monday, March 20th, 2006

i spent the weekend with my favorite ex.  NYC that is, my ex-home.  i’ve been feeling a little weird lately when i go there on tour and this time around i came to the conclusion that it’s because NYC for me feels much like an ex-boyfriend.  (more…)

mean people suck

Saturday, February 4th, 2006

do you know how many concerned emails/phone calls i’ve gotten in the last week? they start something like this…”hey sweetie, it’s your Dad. i was trying to figure out when you’re going to be in the area…did you know your website is down?” or “i’ve been a fan for a long time and i notice your website is gone…did you quit the music business?” no, these aren’t the mean people that suck. these are amazing people who noticed my site was down long before i did, which makes me wonder if they’re getting out of the house enough. :) (more…)

belated new year’s resolution ..1: write in my journal, or “blog”, at least once a year, and not feel guilty if i don’t write any more than that.

see, i already feel better. i’ve just made my first new year’s resolution come true. and now if i actually blog say, once a month, i will be really rockin’ my resolution. (more…)

The Mud Angels: my twin sister’s band

Monday, October 24th, 2005

If you read my journal you’ve probably noticed me mention my twin sister, Laura, on several occasions. You may have even seen her sing back-up when she came on tour with me last March. Since that tour Laura discovered her inner-blues-mama, has earned the nickname “Torch”, and has been dazzling crowds as the front woman for Madison, WI based blues cover band called The Mud Angels. fall tour 2005 scrapbook

Tuesday, October 4th, 2005

dear friends,

it has recently been pointed out to me that it’s been 3 months since i’ve written in this journal. as if i needed reminding. (ok, sometimes i *do* need a swift kick in the rear) i’ve meant to write so many times since July 28th when i embarked on this 9 week tour. but time has been short and exhaustion and to-do lists long and the more days that passed, the greater the need i’ve felt to have something important and meaningful to show for myself and my silence. “tunatoes” and “Store Wars”

Saturday, July 16th, 2005

i had one of the best tomatoes i’ve ever had a couple weeks ago in Berlin. it wasn’t some kind of super-tomato, just the average store bought tomato in Germany. but i swear i haven’t tasted a tomato so lush and flavorful since i was a kid and we got our produce from my grandfather’s garden in North Carolina. it was eyes rolling back in the head kind of good! after i came down from the high i got pissed off, cause i realized i haven’t been eating real tomatoes for years. i’ve been eating grocery store, genetically modified, low quality tomato imitators. i couldn’t believe i had been tricked for all these years. Coachella bliss

Monday, May 2nd, 2005

before you get too excited, no, i didn’t play at Coachella. i wish, maybe next year. :) i was happily just a fan and music lover on a pilgrimage to the desert to hear some of my favorite bands this past saturday, and it was a damn near perfect day. here’s my review of what i caught: (more…)

Kylertown

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

Kyler is my real name. i know it’s a little unusual. i get called Tyler all the time and people often think i’m a man before they meet me. i was put on a boys soccer team when i was 12 (which was pretty horrifying at that age) and these days i even get postcards from Playboy Magazine every 6 months trying to get me to subscribe. supernatural salem

Wednesday, March 16th, 2005

it was just an ordinary night. i was nearing the end of my set at Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC. i was enjoying leaning into the contours of the melody of one of my favorite covers, “The Scientist” by Coldplay. i closed my eyes as i strummed, like i have done thousands of times before. i was peacefully unaware of my surroundings, lost in the moment of the music…until…i felt a strange weight on the end of my guitar, as if someone had grabbed on to the headstock and was holding on. i thought maybe someone was playing a trick on me so i opened my eyes, but all i saw was a sea of attentive faces and no one near the stage. this struck me as very strange as i could have sworn i felt something.
