how i’ve been “wasting” my time

hello end of 2007 approaching and i’ve only blogged 3 times this year!

that’s ok, i’ve been quite busy writing songs, driving thousands of miles and singing my little heart out for you…f*%k blogging! :) i have been doing a few other things, like playing fetch with my cat Sly. (yes, he really does fetch, i should try to make some money off of the little talented bugger to pay for his Friskies!)

here are some other things i’ve been keeping myself entertained with:

1) SUPER MARIO BROS: there’s a Nintendo Wii in my household in which i’ve shown little to no interest until recently when we downloaded the original Super Mario Bros. after that it was all over. i used to play when i was a kid. it was the first and last video game i ever loved. i spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours on it and saved the princess 3 times in a row in the same game once. i can safely say i mastered that game. and then i was like, “that’s it? that’s all you got? now what?” and i felt supremely cheated out of what amounted to days probably weeks of my life. at that moment i resolved never to obsess over another video game again and i stuck by that resolve…until now! Mario and Luigi and that so-bad-it’s-good music are back in my life but it’s better the second time around. i know i’m not gonna get crazy obsessed and play till my thumbs ache to the bone. plus, it’s so much more fun to play when you’re a little bit (or a lot) tipsy!

2) Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others): best movie i’ve seen all year. so good i stayed up till 3am one night on tour to finish it. it’s a German film, subtitled, about a secret police agent in East Berlin circa 1984 who becomes absorbed by and tangled up in the lives of the people he is assigned to spy on. read about it on the IMDB http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0405094/. the story, acting and writing are all hauntingly good.

3) Contemplating Climate Change- it’s been a warm fall in LA as well as everywhere i’ve been on tour and dry as well. not too many pretty colored leaves to see. it’s getting harder for people to ignore the inevitable climate change we’re already starting to see evidence of. my supah-smart twin sis, who happens to be both an ecologist and lead singer of kickass blues band The Mud Angels, emailed me a link to a youtube video that is a simple argument, whether you believe that humans are causing climate change or not, that we simply have to do something about global warming. my sis put it very well and i hope she doesn’t mind me quoting her, “This is worth watching… a simple risk analysis on climate change that makes it pretty clear that the option of inaction is basically irrational (perhaps insane?). It’s time for the peeps to stop watching from the sidelines while decision makers debate the level of uncertainty of various climate change scenarios and to start demanding action.” watch it and pass it on! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDsIFspVzfI

4) Oktoberfest- German Beer Girl costume to prove it HERE. those Germans know how to have a good time. bier, hefeweizen, oom pa music, pretzel eating contests!!! i got swept up into the fun of it and ended up on stage in a crazy contest and won a really cool Budweiser Christmas edition beer stein for milking the most water from a lion!????!!!…it was a plywood board with a yellow painted lion and rubber teats hanging beneath it…who comes up with this Scheisse? this from the people who gave us the microphone, the automobile, the television, the birth control pill (thank you!), beer, and the most delicious chocolate that’s ever graced my lips, tongue and belly! what will they think of next? i think there’s something to the fact that germans invented beer and they invented so many other amazing and indispensable things to modern life. beer is a good muse for more than just songwriters! i found a cool site about german inventions, check it out.

Sly just dropped his little stuffed mouse on my lap so time to play some fetch, duty calls! until next time!
xoxo,
kyler ;)
