my new favorite things
rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens…got some updates on that old tune thanks to some recent discoveries…
kitty laser tag- my kitties have a new high-tech toy. it’s a little laser pointer that i got at a pet store, it’s actually made for pets. i point it on the floor and then drag it across the couch and up the curtains and then back down again and my feline friends, Sly and Eve, go NUTS chasing after it. they won’t stop for anything. Sly was having so much fun chasing it up and down the stairs that i didn’t notice how hard he was breathing. when i finally stopped he was panting pretty hard, like i used to after sprinting to the finish of a 5k. think about it…have you ever seen a cat pant? it’s normal for a canine but the only other time i *ever* saw a *cat* pant was when it barely escaped with its life after being hunted down by an enormous dog. for a second i felt a surge of panic… “holy shit, i killed my cat!” even though i had long turned the laser off, Sly was still fidgeting around like a junkie, looking for the red light, so i wrapped my arms around him and held him in place till his breathing slowed. after a few minutes i could see he was going to be ok…phew! i still feel a bit guilty for letting the game get out of hand, but the cats are deliriously happy about their new toy. they were getting tired of pretending their little cloth mice were real and batting them around the floor.
raclette parties- i went to a dinner party at a friend’s place recently and they had this cool contraption called a raclette grill. it’s a Swiss contraption, named after a kind of cheese, that a group of people can sit around kinda like fondue but way cooler. see, each person gets their own little pan which they can fill with their fave veggies and then top with cheese. you can do everything from tomatoes to mushrooms to peas to onions to corn etc. then you all put your pans on the grill and wait for the cheese to melt while you sip your wine and converse about “life, the universe, and everything”. you can also cook meats or tofu right on on the grill to go with your veggies and cheese. here’s a page on how to host your own raclette party.
Entourage- one of my best friends is obsessed with the HBO series, Entourage, so i figured i should give it a go. it’s set in LA and is about the adventures of a movie star and his entourage which mainly includes his older brother who is a failed actor, his still pretty green manager, an old friend from back home named Turtle, and his fire breathing agent. i don’t get cable so i recently picked up the first season on DVD. i then proceeded to spend 4 hours straight watching the entire first season and have already picked up the second season DVD. i leave for tour in a few days so i’m gonna have to cram to get in all 15 episodes before i go!
Dr Bob’s Ice Cream- i’m pretty sure the words “ice cream” and “doctor” don’t usually go together in any kind of happy way. i’m thinking the most typical combination is something like, “Bob, i’m your doctor and i’m telling you you gotta quit that ice cream habit”. but there’s a much, much better combo of those words…Dr Bob’s Ice Cream! eating it might send you to the doctor since on the website they proudly announce that their ice cream is “high in butter-fat.” (like i wanted to know that) oh, it’s soooo good though. and for chocolate chips they use Scharffenberger chocolate which is a super fine dark german chocolate. i’m telling you, don’t read the label, just eat it and enjoy the high! read all about it here: Dr Bob’s Ice Cream
…i simply remember my favorite things, and then i don’t feel so bad!
