A Flower Grows in Stone is the latest project from singer-songwriter Kyler England. A native North Carolinian who now claims New York City as home, she is a road warrior whose writing is a reflection of many soul-searching travels. The production by Richard Oliver Furch is bold and full, supportive of England’s powerful vocals and soaring melodies yet at times appropriately sparse, allowing for a closer perspective of this promising young artist. The album is reminiscent of the crop of female artists that arose out of the American traditional rock movement, though England seems to be developing an individual voice. A Flower Grows in Stone contains 14 compassionate and introspective songs, all performed with confidence and intimacy. —Liz Norris
