before sunrise

tonight i just said to heck with it all, put away my laptop and phone and rented a movie by myself. i had been in the middle of doing laundry in between emails in between trying to get my head screwed on straight and had thrown two loads to fold on my bed but i got into one of my moods and couldn’t deal and decided to have a “me” night. executive decisions like that are easy when you’re your own boss! my fave “me” night of all time was when i was living in Berkeley, CA in the summer of ‘97. i rented Breakfast at Tiffany’s (which i had never seen), pulled the TV/VCR into the bathroom, filled the tub with scalding hot water and floating candles and ate a bowl of ice cream while watching. it was the ultimate indulgence, i highly recommend it!

tonight had a little less fanfare but the same effect. i watched Before Sunrise through the piles of clean tees and socks with candlelight and my new fave veggie burger- tomato basil pizza burger by Morningstar. yum! i seriously adored Before Sunrise and i’m going to watch it again very soon and i’m not one to watch a movie twice. it’s the tale of a chance romantic meeting and the connection between two people who barely know each other. what i loved about it is how true it is to new love…conversation was awkward and timid and bumpy and yet the spaces and tension between told all. Ethan Hawke is my new crush. living under a pop culture rock as i do i just found out about this film from an interview with him in Rolling Stone. the occasion for the piece was that the sequel to Before Sunrise came out tonight. it’s called Before Sunset and it’s about the two lovers meeting again by chance ten years later. can’t wait to see it later this weekend.

i’m such a sucker for stories/films/songs about new love. how is it that you can meet thousands of people over the years and suddenly one day someone crosses your path and cuts straight to your soul? love’s a wondrous and beautiful thing. sigh…

signing off to get some sleep before sunrise…
