my favorite season on the way
i’m sitting in a college library on the campus i played last night, checking email before i leave town for the next gig. one real bummer about being on the road is trying to keep up with email- 90 new messages today. i was so excited about having a super fast connection, at least faster than mine in brooklyn, but for some reason this college seems to be a little behind the times. while my email is loading (yes, it’s taking *that* long) i’m nibbling away at typing this journal entry. those who know me well know i’m the “master-multi-tasker”! multi-tasking is really important when you’re a singer-songwriter…you gotta be able to sing and play guitar *and* look cool, all at the same time! tough job, i know
when i woke up this morning i noticed my hotel was right on Lake Erie and it was the most gorgeous clear blue day complete with a breeze so i took a walk down by the water. (it was so late when i checked into the hotel last night that i had no idea what a sweet location i was set up in) here in upstate NY the fall is already starting to make its entrance and i’m giddy. i love these late summer days that are harbingers of the fall…when the sunlight takes on a slightly more yellow cast…the air feels like liquid on my skin, so smooth and crisp…the sunset starts creeping earlier and earlier inspiring a restlessness in me as if i have to squeeze all the precious moments out of the day before it’s gone. autumn is my most inspired and reflective season, i’m so excited for it to get here.
this small town i played in last night is a welcome relief from the stinky streets of NYC that radiate the summer heat with a vengeance. as much as i love my home in brooklyn, i miss open space and green so much. the air just smells good here, like sweet fresh cut grass and damp earth. i wish i could stay here longer and read a book under a tree, but that city girl fantasy is going to have to wait…it’s time to hit the road for my next gig tonight. i’m gonna drive with the windows rolled all the way down today. (messy hair be damned!)
